Functionality of car air suspension
Air suspension is a system of air cylinders that are filled with air, helping to maintain the required height of the vehicle body in relation to the road surface.
Basically, air suspensions are installed in executive class cars or SUVs. In addition, air suspension has proven itself well in compact trucks.
Compressed air accumulates in the receiver (a metal cylinder with a capacity of several liters), which enters the air springs through a valve system. Thanks to the presence of the receiver, the position of the suspension can be changed without turning on the compressor.
Air springs are elastic elements installed on each wheel. The purpose of air springs is to maintain the car body at a given height in relation to the road surface. For the production of air bags, multilayer rubber is used, which resembles a “tablet” in shape, divided into several sections.
The compressor, which pumps compressed air into the receiver, is equipped with an electric motor, supplemented by several electromagnetic valves. Air bags can be inflated in pairs or individually.
The control system controls:

- the current level of the vehicle body position relative to the road surface;
- the pressure in the system;
- the speed characteristics of the vehicle;
- the temperature of the compressor.
The signals from the sensors are processed in the control unit, and the corresponding signals are transmitted to the actuators.
What is air suspension calibration and when is it necessary?
Air suspension calibration is a procedure aimed at increasing the stability of the car on different road surfaces.
